Wild Weekend

We thought we were going to become parents twice over the weekend, but Little Man has decided to stay put for now.  We got the first call Friday evening that our Birth Mother was on her way to the hospital and her contractions were 3 1/2 minutes apart.  We didn't have any bags packed, as we thought we had more time, so we scrambled around the house stuffing stuff into bags.  We dropped the dog off at a friends house and then hit the road.  We got a few calls on the way down there updating us, and then just 20 minutes from the hospital, we got the call that the hospital was sending her home because she wasn't progressing.  The doctor told her it would happen in the next day or two so we were encouraged to stick around town and wait it out.  Saturday we went over to visit her at her house, and we realized she wasn't in labor, so we stuck around to Sunday, went to church with her, her aunt and cousin.  After church we went out for lunch and then we headed back home.

Then at 3:52 am on Monday morning, the phone rang and we found out she was heading back to the hospital.  We got to the hospital, saw her and found out that the contractions were about 5 minutes apart and that they were just monitoring the baby as the contractions weren't changing her cervix much.  We went and joined her aunt in the waiting room and about an hour later, our Birth Mother appeared fully dressed in the waiting room telling us they were sending her home.  Her aunt invited us back to their house, where we rested for a while and then had breakfast.  We decided to go kill some time and then we called our Birth Mother to see how she was doing.  She said the contractions had died down, so we headed back home again.

Last night we got a text from her that she was passing the mucus plug, so we are getting closer!  (Sorry if I just grossed anyone out.)  But no baby yet.  But we got to spend most of the weekend with our Birth Mother and really got to know her a lot better.  We even exchanged phone numbers with her.  We also got to meet the part of her family that is supportive of her decision and they were very nice and hospitable all weekend long.  We also got to meet her daughter.  She is a cutie!  She came right to me and sat on my lap on Saturday. And she played with us after breakfast on Monday, so I think she likes us. :)  So it was a very good weekend.

I feel more like an expectant father than a mother as I can't go ANYWHERE without my phone, because you never know when the next call will come in.  And I think we are officially "ready" for the real call.  Bags are packed and transferred from the house to the car every morning and then back again at night.  Our dog sitters have a key to the house so we don't have to knock on their door at 3 am some morning.  We both know how to get to the hospital and to the floor we need to be on.  So we are ready whenever Sam is ready!

We continue to be blown away by the generosity of our family and friends!  We lowered our goal amount based on our conversations with our lawyer.  We are only about $5,000 away from having him PAID IN FULL!  (As long as everything goes smoothly.)  I have to admit, that every time I would start to panic, more donations would roll in, and I mean some substantial donations!  We are truly blessed...and we recognize that.
