"Mama, this is how you dance"

In honor of Birth Mother's Day (Saturday) and Mother's Day, I thought I'd share a poem my Mom found in a newspaper 2 years ago and clipped for me:

"Legacy of an Adopted Child"

Once there were two women who never knew each other,
One - you do not remember, the other you call mother.
Two different lives shaped to make yours,
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.
The first gave you life, and the second taught you to live in it.
The first gave you a need for love and the second was there to give it.
One gave you a nationality; the other gave you a name.
One gave you the seed of talent; the other gave you an aim.
One gave you emotions; the other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile; the other dried your tears.
One gave you up - that's all she could do.
The other prayed for a child and God led her straight to you.
Now you ask through all your tears the age-old question through the years;
Heredity or environment - which are you a product of?
Neither, my darling - neither - just two different kinds of love.

Parenting is so much harder than I imagined it would be, but so much more amazing too.  I am so blessed and incredibly honored to be given the opportunity to experience motherhood.

I'm learning so much being a Mom.  One of the parts I love the most is seeing the world through the innocent eyes of a child again.  And this video, where my child says, "Mama, this is how you dance" illustrates that.  If only we were all so carefree, to stand up in our booth in the middle of McDonald's and let the music move us, not caring who was watching or recording us.  I love his passion, his heart, and his spunk.  I love being his Mommy!

So to all Mothers out there, whether you are a Mom to your own biological child(ren), a Birth Mother, an Adoptive Mother or a Mother who is still waiting (you are brave and strong and that is reason enough to celebrate), Happy Mother's Day!
