Progress At the House

We worked our butts off this weekend at the house and it was well worth it.  We now have all of our total loss items inventoried.  There are a few items we need to research prices for on the Internet, but the hardest part of writing everything down and getting it all moved to one room in the house is done.  It was hard and sad to put a price on some of the things that have more sentimental value than anything.  Pretty much all of our Christmas decorations were a total loss.  (I'm not sure if actually decorating this year would have saved them or not, but I'm guessing they would have been a total loss even if they were up around the house.)  And the rest of the things were pretty random.  I'm not sure how they determined what to take and what not to take, but based on what was left and what was gone made me feel like there really wasn't a set of rules to follow.  It was crazy seeing some of the half melted things from the attic.

Living in a hotel definitely makes me feel like I'm living in a dorm again, especially on the weekends when we go downstairs for breakfast.  The walls are way too thin, and I now know way too much about our neighbors.  Sleeping is still hit or miss too.  I'm still not used to the bed or the noises and probably only got about 2 hours of solid sleep at any one time last night.

I got to visit Nigel on Thursday afternoon and he is definitely upset with us.  He was starving for attention so he wanted me to pet him, but the whole time I was petting him, he was attacking me.  This should be the last week he is at the vet, so hopefully he will relax a little once he is moved and has more room and more quiet.  I'm anxious to see how the Noah and Nigel reunion will go.  We plan to move Nigel to Dan and Stacey's on Saturday and I don't know if we will take Noah with us then or wait and take Noah over sometime the following week to see Nigel.

Other than all of that, life is pretty much settling down now.  I'm looking forward to having a day when we have nothing to do and no where to go.  I feel like we haven't had that yet since the fire.

The contractor was on vacation all last week, so the only progress made at the house was by Gus and I and our friend Todd got a team of guys together to demo the guest room on Thursday.  I'm still shocked and humbled by all of the people who have stepped up to help us out.  Hopefully, we will see an estimate from the contractor this week and then they can start making some real progress.
