We have had an exciting week so far! First of all, we survived our first home study interview last night! Not nearly as bad as I imagined, but we still have 2 more to go. Ironically, I received a phone call last night in the middle of it. My phone was across the room, so we just let it ring and continued on with our conversation. After our social worker left (side note, the girl in training had jury duty yesterday, so it looks like we will just have our usual social worker for the home study!), I looked to see who had called, and it was the IVF clinic. When I listened to the message I was surprised to hear that it was the doctor himself calling. He just wanted to check on us to see how we were doing and if we were settled back in the house yet. I was really touched by that.
Speaking of doctors, I have to get more information for the adoption agency because of all of my medical issues. I need to get two letters from two different doctors describing diagnosis, treatment & compliance with treatment, medication and dosage, impact on life expectancy, and impact on ability to parent. When I called to request the first letter, the woman taking the message asked if she could make a comment. I said sure and she responded with, "seriously...this is ridiculous!" I explained that we had a whole list of hoops to jump through but she was just stuck on how crazy this letter request was. But if you think about it, we will be wanting the medical history of the birth parents of our child. Not real sure how "fair" it is, it doesn't feel very fair when it is requested of you, but again, we don't have the pleasure of doing this the easy way.
We are looking forward to our trip to Nashville, which begins tomorrow morning! Four whole days of traveling, fun, and learning! And we found out last night that this will pretty much be all the training required of us from here on out. We both have 2 books to finish prior to home study finalization, but that will be it!! Woohoo!!!!
This last part, I normally wouldn't advertise, but I'm pretty excited about it. On Monday morning, I received a promotion at work. (My real job, not job #2, so this is big news!) I am no longer the Operations Analyst, I am now the Operations Manager. For the first time in my life, I have the title of manager behind my name. I even get my own employee to "manage." Our Office Manger retired, so when we replace her, the new employee will report to me. I feel so grown up. :)
Anyway, I received an email from the people doing the conference this weekend, and they asked that I share this video with family and friends. So if you are interested is learning more about what we will be learning about, give it a watch:
