1/4 of the Way There

The conference last weekend was AMAZING! We are so glad we had the chance to go and so thankful we got to go prior to a child being placed in our home. So many of the families there were trying to dig themselves out of difficult spots, and it made me feel so blessed to be on the preventative end of things for once. If I had to pick one thing to pass on to whoever reads this blog, I guess it would be that ALL adopted children are "at-risk" children. It doesn't matter if the birth mother had full prenatal care and never exposed the child to drugs or alcohol, that child will still have obstacles to overcome. Dealing with "at-risk" children takes time, energy, and a plan. We were lucky enough to learn all of this prior to having an "out of control" child running around our house. We have learned some pretty cool parenting methods that we can't wait to start practicing.

Home study interview #2 was last night, and we survived again. I don't want to ruin all of the surprises for anyone who may stumble upon this blog who is in the adoption process, but if you want to know more, I'm willing to talk about it.

Our list of things to do is growing. I managed to finish one of my books over the weekend, so I just have one left to go. Plus we have to start working on our profiles which will be shown to birth mothers to choose which family they place their child with. And we need to work on our fundraiser. Our social worker said with our openness of what children we are willing to take, we probably won't be waiting very long. And if we are chosen by a "cold call," we will have ZERO time to plan anything. She did tell me to continue to expect a rollercoaster ride of emotions from here on out, that she didn't know too many couples who had an easy journey from here.

However, we are now 25% of the way to our goal!!!!! We received another hefty donation this week, which is truely humbling. We have been blessed with so many amazing people in our lives! I can't wait for Sammich to meet every single one of them!!!
